Dear Family and
Friends,
As you may know, I am rowing for the Shenendehowa Crew Club. We have
done very well in our fall races and rowing has been one of the best
experiences I have ever had. I am privileged to be part of this
program. Friends of Shenendehowa Crew, Inc. is a non-profit
organization- not financially supported by school- and thus it
relies heavily on its members to support it.
As you can imagine, the sport of rowing is not cheap. Boats usually
cost as much as a car, and that does not include oars, intercom
systems, uniforms, trailer, truck and workout machines. FOSC has a
reputation as one of the best school age rowing teams in the area.
We consistently win such events as The Head of the Charles and The
New York State Championships. We have also performed well
nationally. To compete at this level, however, our team must have
excellent equipment, facilities, coaches and rowers.
Excellence is not cheap, so FOSC holds fundraisers and solicits
donations to maintain its excellent programs. One such fundraiser is
our Ergathon. We will all take turns, in shifts, rowing on an erg in
Clifton Park Center (Food Court). (erg – short for ergometer –is a machine that imitates the rowing motion and is the
principle land training device for rowers) We are hoping to break
last years record of 230,353 meters erged. Please stop by and
cheer us on! The success of our Ergathon relies on donations.
