GENERAL
INFO
Welcome to the Second Annual Scull of the Duck Sculling Regatta
being held on the beautiful Mohawk River, in Alplaus,
NY. It is one of few sculling only regattas in the region.
The competition forms the cornerstone of the day long festival.
We encourage scullers of all levels to participate. It is fun, it

Schedule
The
posted schedule will be adjusted after registration deadline based
on actual entries that are received.
The order of events will remain the same, but expect the
times to be adjusted. Look at the website
(www.shencrew.com)
for the most updated schedule. The first race on Saturday is
scheduled for 8:00
a.m.
The
local organizing committee (LOC) reserves the right to:
·
Change the
tentative schedule of events, including moving an event
from
one time to another.
·
Scratch all events with less than 3 entries.
·
Limit the
number of events or flights in order to ensure races are
completed
before darkness.
At
the launch site
Competitors will be given two calls from the launch site and are
asked NOT to come to the site before
being called.
·
1st call - 35 minutes prior to start time
·
2nd call - 30 minutes prior
·
Final
call - 25 minutes prior
Please refer to the map of the launch site. All shells will be
funneled through the yellow tape to the Dock
master's tent where the shell will be inspected for safety
equipment. To make this process go smoothly,
upon arriving at the Dock master's tent the coxswain should announce
the name of the crew and the
scheduled lane.
Generally, the following pattern will be followed for the
launching and retrieval of shells:
·
Launching: towards the right when looking at the water from
the land. Launching shells must row out
keeping orange buoys on the port side of the boat and then
proceed upstream to the start.
· Return:
towards the LEFT when looking at the water. Closer to the finish
line.
The Course
The
race course is surveyed to 1500 meters and will be marked with buoys
at the start,
500m, 1000m, and finish. Targets beyond the finish of the course aid
coxswains in navigation.
The
course will allow up to three lanes and events with more than three
entries will be raced as separate
heats, with finals. Events with less than two entries may
be cancelled. With the exception of single sculls,
teams are limited to two entries per event.
The regatta will be run on ten-minute centers, so efficiency is
paramount to keeping the regatta on
schedule. Boats must be launched at least 30 minutes prior
to your start time and be in the staging
area five minutes prior to start time. We will not delay an event so
an athlete can 'hot seat.'
All
competitors will race 1500 meters with floating start. Two large
(48") buoys on either side of the
course will mark the start and finish lines. A map will be
provided on race day illustrating the course and
the patterns to be followed for rowing to the start, the race, and
rowing to the launch area. Coxswains
must obey the commands of the starting officials. Broken
equipment will be recognized within the first 20
seconds.
The
course is partially marked with lane buoys. Competitors are
responsible for maintaining their lanes.
Buoys mark the, 500m, 1000m and 1500m points.
Protests
Protests involving the conduct of a race must be lodged by the crew
at the finish line while still on the
water and before the referee declares the race to be
official. A coach or other team member may not
lodge a protest on behalf of a crew.
A crew wishing to lodge a protest must signal to a referee
immediately after finishing the race by
having a member of the crew raise his or her hand until
the attention of the referee has been
gained and acknowledged.
